Backup Your Tumblr

Providing an iPhone friendly version of your Tumblr

Here’s how you can provide a quality iphone friendly version of your site, it uses a bit of Javascript. The first two steps go between your <head> tags the third goes in the body tag like it shows. I used http://tumblephone.com to create my iphone optimized version of my tumblr.

Step 1
Create a function to detect the target device.

<script type="text/javascript">
function iPhoneAlert() {
if((navigator.userAgent.match(/iPhone/i))||(navigator.userAgent.
match(/iPod/i))){
}
}
</script>

Step 2

Extend the function to display a modal prompt upon success.

<script type="text/javascript">
function iPhoneAlert() {
if((navigator.userAgent.match(/iPhone/i))||(navigator.userAgent.
match(/iPod/i))){
var question = confirm(”Would you like to view the iPhone-optimized version of our site?”)
if (question){
window.location = “http://tumblephone.com/tryingtofollow#_home”;
}else{
window.location = “
http://tumblr.tryingtofollow.com
”;
}
}
}
</script>

Step 3

Call the function by adding an onLoad event handler to the body tag.

<body onLoad="iPhoneAlert();">

That’s It!

Apparently I’m not the only one who wants to tweak the heck out of Tumblr

I’ve found on my random google searches for things I want to get tumblr to do that there simply isn’t a ton of info out there on who to do things.

Things like optimizing for SEO, ideas for how to switch tumblr urls without breaking links, so on and so forth. Sweet little gadgets like userscripts that add infinite scroll and stuff like that.

So, that’s what this site is going to be for. If your interested click that follow button up there in the corner.

Peace.
